Psychotherapy
While the overall goal of psychotherapy is to improve the relationship
of the client with him/herself and others, often there are immediate
problems that need to be addressed within a specific time frame.
Therapy may be short term, problem solving and solution focused, or
longer term, that may include family of origin issues, failure to
achieve potential, and the search for meaning in life. In all types of
therapy goals are formulated in partnership with the client and
reassessed with the client on an on-going basis.

Individual therapy is a one on one interaction of client with
therapist. Information contributed by the client may include a
description of the problem, previous attempts to solve the problem, a
verbal history, memories, and significant dreams. Information
contributed by the therapist may include a developmental framework for
viewing the problem, interpretation of material presented, and
emotional support and coaching. Referral to a qualified psychiatrist
for antidepressant medication is available if needed.

Couples therapy is therapy in which the relationship between two
partners is the focus. This may or may not include individual therapy
with one or both partners. Clients may be asked to take the
Myers-Briggs personality test (which may be accessed on-line) if they
have not already done so. This is a test based on C.G. Jung's work on
psychological types and, since people often partner with someone who is
their opposite, it is a helpful aid in improving understanding and
communication.
